Research maps
The Faculty of Life Sciences is aware that the traditional academic divisions of research are not always relevant to researchers in industry. Businesses are generally more interested in an approach that draws together all relevant researchers across disciplines that contribute to work on a particular theme. For example, commercial research in an important area like diabetes and obesity is likely to include work from several different academic areas.
As a result, the Faculty of Life Sciences along with the Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences are creating a series of research maps that draw together all relevant academics who are researching problems relating to a specific theme. These maps allow businesses to quickly identify both what is being worked on and who is doing the work.
