Cell-Matrix Research

Overview

Cell-Matrix Research within the Faculty takes place within the Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell-Matrix Research (WTCCMR). The Centre's mission is to play a major part in the international endeavour to elucidate the structure and function of extracellular matrices (ECM) and their cellular receptors, to define the role of ECM and cell-ECM interactions in normal development and human diseases, and to develop approaches for preventing and treating such diseases.

The Centre comprises 23 principal investigators who manage independent research programmes and collaborate under the umbrella of cell-matrix research. The Centre actively recruits new members and is dedicated to helping them achieve their maximum research potential.

About the Cell-Matrix Centre

History of the Centre

The Centre was founded in 1994 and has already moved once as part of its eventful history.

Facilities

The Centre contains state-of-the-art equipment and facilities including those for biomolecular analysis, electron microscopy, flow cytrometry, light microscopy and x-ray crystallography.

Our location

We are based in the Michael Smith Building in the south of the campus - you can find us by looking at Contact us.

Professor Charles Streuli is the Centre Director.

We were granted Centre status by the Wellcome Trust in 1995.

We organise a seminar programme featuring internationally-recognised speakers and research from our scientists.

Principal investigators within the Centre offer both funded studentships and PhD projects available for students with self-arranged funding. See studentships or contact us for further information.

The Centre is responsible for a high number of world-class publications from its principal investigators each year.
