What is Biotechnology?
Biotechnology is the application of biology in industry and exploits living things and processes commercially to make useful products and provide practical solutions. Biotechnology exploits our fundamental understanding of biology and applies it in practical ways for the benefit of mankind. In the 21st century, biotechnology is set to continue to have a major impact on all our lives from improvements in medicine and pharmaceuticals to food quality, agricultural systems and biofuels.
As well as the science, this course will also explain how new start-up biotechnology companies are created, how to explore the market potential of products and processes, how to create business plans and how money is raised from venture capitalists.
