Genetics

What is Genetics?

Have you ever wondered why we are different from plants and other animals? How a single cell produced at fertilisation knows how to grow into a complete plant, animal or person? All living organisms contain genetic material in the form of DNA that directs and controls how an organism develops and functions. On the Genetics course you will learn how Genetics is the key to life on earth. In addition, with the advances in Genetic analysis and testing in humans we are now entering a time where it will be possible to easily sequence a persons genome and begin to predict the likelihood of certain traits and diseases.

This is an exciting time for Genetics and we hope that our course at Manchester will help you appreciate the importance of Genetics in understanding life and disease.

Lecture

Lectures range from the introductory Molecular Genetics module in your first year to a wide range of more specialised modules in the final year.
