Fees
Your tuition fees will cover the cost of your study at the University as well as charges for registration, tuition, supervision, examinations and graduation.
Payment of fees will also entitle you to membership of the Library, the Students' Union and the Athletic Union. For general fee information including paying your fees, see University Postgraduate fees.
PhD and MPhil
The fee for each PhD or MPhil programme will fall into one of three levels, or bands, which will be determined by your principal supervisor according to the nature and complexity of your research project and is displayed at the end of the advertised project description.

Fees for UK/EU students
If you are not applying for a studentship, the fees for self-funded programmes are listed below.
For the academic year 2012/13 the UK/EU fees are:
- Band 1 £6,600 per year (low consumable research project)
- Band 2 £12,300 per year (medium consumable research project)
- Band 3 £17,800 per year (high consumable research project)
For the academic year 2013/14 the UK/EU fees are:
- Band 1 £6,700 per year (low consumable research project)
- Band 2 £13,000 per year (medium consumable research project)
- Band 3 £18,100 per year (high consumable research project)

Fees for International students
For the academic year 2012/13 the international fees are:
- Band 1 £17,800 (low consumable research project)
- Band 2 £23,000 (medium consumable research project)
- Band 3 £29,100 (high consumable research project)
For the academic year 2013/14 the international fees are:
- Band 1 £18,100 (low consumable research project)
- Band 2 £23,500 (medium consumable research project)
- Band 3 £29,700 (high consumable research project)

The annual cost of your programme will be will be confirmed in your letter of offer, following successful application. For UK/EU students, the annual cost of the programme will increase slightly each year. For overseas applicants, the cost of your programme will remain fixed for the duration of your study.
For students who do not submit their thesis before the end of the experimental programme (3 year programmes only), students must register for submission pending for which there will be a University fee for the approved 12 month period. The fee is currently £225 (with £150 refund if submission is within the first 6 months of the submission pending period).
